Product Overview

  • Utilizes original SP3232 and SP3485 components, offering stable performance that meets industrial-grade design standards.
  • The module enables mutual conversion between RS232 signals and RS485/RS422 signals. The on-board automatic transmit-receive conversion circuit eliminates the need for "receive-transmit" control, facilitating faster and more stable communication between the two interfaces.
  • Equipped with standard DB9 interfaces and 3.5mm screw-type terminal blocks for smooth and secure connections.
  • The circuit operates on a 5V power supply only.
    • Power voltage must be connected to the 485/422 end when the module is in use.
  • Features independent power and signal isolation circuits.
    • On-board digital isolator with excellent performance characteristics and reliability for signal isolation, ensuring more stable signal transmission.
    • On-board DC/DC power isolator provides stable isolated voltage and output short-circuit protection, eliminating the need for additional power supply at the isolated end.
  • The RS232 end is equipped with overcurrent and surge protection functions, ensuring stable current and voltage output and strong impact resistance.
  • The RS485/422 end includes overcurrent protection, surge protection, and lightning gas discharge protection circuits.
    • On-board TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) effectively suppresses surge voltages and transient spike voltages in the circuit, protecting downstream circuits and equipment.
    • On-board self-resetting fuse ensures stable current and voltage output, prevents overcurrent, overvoltage, and electrostatic discharge, and offers strong impact resistance.
    • On-board GDT (Gas Discharge Tube) utilizes the discharge tube to discharge powerful lightning currents into the ground, protecting subsequent circuits and equipment from surge impacts and damage.
  • The board has reserved 120R termination resistor pads to enhance signal transmission stability and reduce interference.
  • Baud rate support range:
    • RS422: ≤2M bps (self-transmit-receive test; actual use requires reference to the baud rate range of the connected devices at both ends)
    • RS485: ≤2M bps (non-standard value; actual use requires reference to the baud rate range of the connected devices at both ends)
  • Three on-board LED indicator lights for indicating the transmission and reception status of the circuit signals.
    • PWR light: green, power indicator
    • TXD light: white, 485/422 data transmission indicator (data flow: RS232 -> RS422/485)
    • RXD light: white, 485/422 data reception indicator (data flow: RS422/485 -> RS232)

Testing Methods

RS485 Testing

  • Connect a USB-to-RS232 serial module to the RS232 port of the 232 422 485 PLUS module.
    • TXD - RXD (pin 2)
    • RXD - TXD (pin 3)
    • GND - GND (pin 5)
  • DB9-PIN公.png
  • Connect a USB-to-RS485 serial module to the RS485 port of the 232 422 485 PLUS module.
    • A to A
    • B to B
  • Connect the power supply to the 422/485 end of the 232 422 485 PLUS module.
    • 5V - 5V
    • GND - GND
  • Connect the USB-to-RS232 serial module and the USB-to-RS485 serial module to the computer, open two serial port debugging assistants, and select the corresponding port numbers.
  • Use one of the serial port debugging assistants to send data to the 232 422 485 PLUS and observe if the receiving window of the other assistant receives the same data as the sending end. If the data is the same, repeat the operation in reverse.

RS422 Self-Transmit-Receive Testing

  • Connect a USB-to-RS232 serial module to the RS232 port of the 232 422 485 PLUS module.
    • TXD - RXD (pin 2)
    • RXD - TXD (pin 3)
    • GND - GND (pin 5)
  • DB9-PIN公.png
  • Short-circuit the pins of the 232 422 485 PLUS module.
    • TXD+ to RXD+
    • TXD- to RXD-
  • Connect the power supply to the 422/485 end of the 232 422 485 PLUS module.
    • 5V - 5V
    • GND - GND
  • Connect the USB-to-RS232 serial module to the computer, open a serial port debugging assistant, and select the corresponding port number.
  • Use the serial port debugging assistant to send data to the 232 422 485 PLUS and observe if the receiving window receives the same data as the sending end.

Notes

  • Power must be connected to the 485/422 end when in use.
  • RS232 to RS485: RS485 is half-duplex communication. Although this module can achieve bidirectional communication, it cannot occur simultaneously in both directions; it must alternate. Even though RS232 is full-duplex communication, it cannot transmit and receive simultaneously; that is, each end of the communication channel can be either a transmitting end or a receiving end, but at the same time, information can only flow in one direction.
  • RS232 to RS422: RS422 is full-duplex communication. This module can achieve simultaneous RS232 and RS422 signal transmission and reception in both directions without interference, and transmission and reception do not require manual control, making it convenient and efficient.
  • Full consideration has been given to lightning protection and anti-interference design for the RS485/422 interfaces. When transmitting over long distances in the field, connecting the module's "ground" terminal to the earth can effectively reduce interference and provide lightning protection, making RS485/422 communication safer. For short-distance transmission indoors, grounding is not necessary.
